Degree Overview
The Exercise Science option at Penn State Berks offers Kinesiology background and applied experience in health and movement assessment, sport science, fitness testing, and healthy living practices. Students can matriculate in the Business Emphasis or the Science Emphasis.
Business Emphasis
The Business Emphasis includes kinesiology courses and basic business skills in accounting, marketing and management. Completion of this Emphasis can help students complete a minor in Business. This unique combination of classes will provide the knowledge and skills for graduates to compete for employment in corporate fitness, private fitness clubs, community-based fitness organizations, sports management, and hospital and university settings. Graduates may choose to operate their own fitness training practice, wellness consulting company, or pursue advanced degrees in business related fields.
Science Emphasis
The Science Emphasis is designed to prepare students for advanced study in graduate school in Kinesiology and allied health fields. Students can take upper-level courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology required for entrance to master’s and doctorate programs. One of the unique characteristics of the Science Emphasis is the senior research thesis, where students design and conduct their own research project. Graduates will be prepared to enroll in advance degree programs in health-related fields, such as physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy, medicine, clinical exercise physiology, and athletic training.
